Dedicated Advocate for Animals and Community Education
Carol Macdonald has been an integral part of Langebaan Animal Care (LAC) for over seven years, stepping into the role of Chairperson in April 2022. With her passion for animals and strong leadership, she has transformed the shelter and its operations, bringing hope and care to countless animals and their human companions.
What Drives Her
Carol’s decision to take on the role of Chairperson was fueled by her love for challenges and a deep desire to make a difference. “I enjoy challenges,” she shares. Her favourite part of the role? “Seeing ill or badly treated dogs and cats recover and begin to trust humans again.”
Unforgettable Moments
Among her many cherished memories, two stories stand out:
- Killer, a loyal dog who became the shelter’s protector during field clinics.
- Shaba, a malnourished dog who found her forever home with a grieving 13-year-old girl, forming a bond that continues to bring tears of joy to Carol.
Transformative Projects
Carol has spearheaded numerous shelter upgrades, including:
- The new adult cattery, which now boasts double-sized open areas and ample sunlight for the cats to enjoy.
- Recent renovations to the dog kennels, creating brighter, more open spaces.
Future projects include enhancing the juvenile cattery and caretaker areas, demonstrating her commitment to continually improving animal welfare.
Her Call to Action
Carol believes that education is key to preventing cruelty and neglect. She advocates for a community forum where mothers and children can learn how to treat animals with care and respect.

To those considering volunteering, Carol says, “It’s a very rewarding experience that makes a tangible difference in the lives of those who cannot speak for themselves.”
